Pinkus Organic Ur Pils
I picked this one up a couple of weeks ago and just got around to trying it out this past weekend. I’m not sure what drew me to the bottle, but I bought it anyhow and I’m glad I did.
For as much as I love heavy, dark beer (and ’tis the season for them), there’s something about a solid pilsner that always gets me. And, well, the opportunity to try out a new one for the first time is as good a reason for me.
Appearance
Pale yellow in color with a pretty large, dense white head.
Aroma
This pilsner smells damned good light, malty, grainy with a subtle fruit (lemon, perhaps).
Taste
The first thing I noticed was a the bright, crisp carbonation on the tongue. It’s a lively beer that’s quite rich for a pilsner with a nice level of grain. There’s also a decent bit of fruitiness to the brew, leaning towards a lemony presence. The finish is somewhat dry with a lingering hop character.
Overall
Pinkus’ Organic Ur Pils was a delight to tell you the truth. It had the authentic pils character, but with a bolstered fruit and graininess that made it somewhat unique to the pilsners I’ve had in the past. Even on a cold day with snow blanketing the front yard, the pilsner never felt out of place.
