Blue Point Toasted Lager

I can’t remember where I picked up this bottle of Blue Point Brewing’s Toasted Lager, but I do remember grabbing it as part of a mixed pack some time last month.

This isn’t the first brew from Blue Point that I’ve had and though I was a little underwhelmed with the company’s Hoptical Illusion when I had it late last year, I picked this one up anyways — I’m secretly a sucker for a tasty lager.

Brewed with a variety of six different malts this smooth drinking lager comes in at a relatively sessionable 5.5% ABV. That’s a good thing since I really enjoyed this little brew and could see myself putting a few of these away under the sun at a ball game or any outdoor event for that matter.

Appearance

Orangish amber in color with a dense off-white head.

Aroma

Lightly toasted malt, grain and the light presence of fruity hops fill the nose nicely. Smells like a well balanced brew.

Taste

I can see why this brew has won a few awards in it’s time. It’s a nicely flavored lager with a crisp, refreshing mouthfeel. There’s a light toast on the malt that blends nicely with the fruity character of the hops (which also have a light spicy bite to them). A grain component also comes in toward the finish and hangs around for a good bit before slowly fading for the next sip to arrive.

Overall

I was pleasantly surprised with this brew. It’s a nicely crafted, full flavored lager that refreshes wonderfully. Having a cooler full of this beer at a family get together wouldn’t be a bad thing at all.
