Cricket’s Nocturne

Cricket's Nocturne photo

I’d seen this beer several times over the past six months or so, but for some reason only just recently decided to pick up a bottle and try it out. New Jersey based Cricket Hill Brewing’s dark lager, Cricket’s Nocturne, turned out to be a tasty little treat.

This beer proved to be the right one to drink on a rather chilly, wet evening last month. It’s crisp mouthfeel and roasty malt character were welcoming and refreshing.

Appearance

Dark, reddish brown in color with a creamy, light tan head.

Aroma

Dark roast malts, a slight char, a touch of raisin and caramel all play a part in the beer’s nose.

Taste

Nocturne is a solid little beer — nearly sessionable at 4.5% ABV — that carries a decent roast and dark fruit undertones. The crisp mouthfeel leads to a slightly dry finish. It’s got notes of caramel and a subtle char that I found to accompany the style quite well..

Overall

This one surprised me. I’m not entirely sure what I was expecting upon opening the bottle, but the end result was a tasty Dunkel that more than satisfied with its flavorful, easy drinking nature.
