Palm Belgian Pale Ale

Palm photo
Who’s the creepy guy in the glass? Oh, wait… that’s me.

The only reason I picked this single bottle of Palm up the other day was because I needed something to complete a mixed six pack of randoms. I knew nothing (and still don’t really know anything) about this particular beer or it’s brewer, Brouwerij Palm. What I do know, and this is only after drinking the beer, is that it’s an easy drinking Belgian Pale Ale that has a pretty solid malt presence. And at 5.4% ABV, Palm is fairly quaffable. Beyond that, the beer doesn’t really provide much more for me to report.

Appearance

Palm pours a crystal clear amber in color with a one finger white head that fell to a thin, patchy surface lace.

Aroma

There’s not much in the nose to tell you the truth. I was hard pressed to find hints of caramel, subtle fruit and a light sweetness.

Taste

The beer, for a Belgian pale ale, has a great malt presence that carries a light sweetness, toast and caramel. There’s not much of a hop component as most beers of this style that I’ve had in the past. The light fruit notes come and go with each sip. This light bodied beer drinks easy and is clean on the palate.

Overall

You know, it wasn’t until I had completely emptied that glass before I figured out the appeal to this beer. It’s not huge in terms of flavor or alcohol which makes it quite drinkable. This would make for a nice daily drinker if I were simply in the mood for a beer and refreshment. It really doesn’t offer much beyond that, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
