St. Sebastiaan Yeast Hoist
Yeast Hoist is a limited run of a Belgian Strong Golden Ale from Brouwerij Sterkens N.V. that features artwork from artist Ron Regé Jr. The beer also features a comic from Regé hanging from the neck of it earthenware neck. I had purchased this bottle along with another from the brewery a couple of weeks ago.
This Strong Golden Ale (or tripel depending on where you search) weighs in at 7.7% ABV and has an unexpectedly well rounded hop character to it that I found refreshing and unique for the style. I wish I had enjoyed it on a day that had warmer, less rainy, weather as this would have been quite the beer to enjoy out in the hammock.
Appearance
Pouring a crystal clear golden yellow in color Yeast Hoist sits with a large, frothy white head.
Aroma
Grain, Belgian yeast, a light funk and grassy hops come together in the clean aroma.
Taste
The crisp mouthfeel pushes light fruits, a moderate sweetness and yeasty notes across the tongue nicely. There’s a decent level of grassy hops that shine in the lingering finish with a touch of a bite. The citrusy hops and carbonation make for a refreshing brew that also carries the lightest of Saison-like funk.
Overall
This is one of those beers that I would jump on every time I saw it on shelves that is if it were in a less expensive presentation. As it stands, the beer and the earthenware bottle it is shipped in made for a tasty treat on a relatively poor weather day. Now, if only I can find something to store in these darn bottles.
