Victory Summer Love

There’s nothing like the first swig of a cold beer after busting your hump around the yard during one of the hotter heat waves we’ve seen in years. That moment that the beer washes over your tongue, cold and sharp before mellowing as you swallow, is paramount in the first post-house work beer of the day. It’s a moment you can only relive once a day as even the very next sip isn’t quite as refreshing or uplifting as the first.

Victory Brewing’s Summer Love, a 5.2% ABV American Blonde Ale, is one of those beers that you just want to have as your first of the day, every day. The combination of American and German hops brings a welcoming hop bite and the beer’s crispness pushed the refreshment factor into overtime. It’s a brew that isn’t quite sessionable, but certainly not too big that a couple of empties next to your deck chair at the end of the day isn’t going to be a bad thing when all is said and done.

Appearance

Looking almost pilsner-like in appearance, Summer Love pours a pale yellow in color with a smallish white head.

Aroma

The pilsner malt comes through nicely as a light biscuity presence while the hop combination adds a touch of grass and a subtle lemony citrus character. Smells good!

Taste

Biscuity malts get us started as the crisp mouthfeel pushes the light citrus and grassy hops across the tongue. There’s a touch of bitterness in the dry, clean finish. The light body and active carbonation make for an easy drinking beer that is refreshing to say the least.

Overall

This beer was made for the ballpark or the beach or any other outdoor Summer activity. It’s light, crisp and thirst-quenching. I love the subtle citrus notes and light hop bite that comes in after the pilsner-like malt character has faded. This is a tasty little brew!
