Angry Orchard Apple Ginger
Angry Orchard’s Apple Ginger is the last of a trio of samples I received from the company and it just so happened that it was my favorite of the bunch. The Traditional Dry was, well, traditional and dry and I liked it a good deal. The Crisp Apple was tasty but sort of middle-of-the-road. This one however, was a treat.
Perhaps it’s because I’m a big fan of ginger ale, but the combination of a nice cider with ginger just seemed to really work for me. The flavors meshed well and reminded me of drinking a softly carbonated ginger ale with a splash of apple juice apparently, that’s what I was in the mood for.
Appearance
Of the three, this is the only one that produced and actually held a bit of a head for a short while. It is a pale amber in color.
Aroma
Compared to the other bottles, this one has a more subdued apple character as the cider focuses on an earthy ginger aroma. The apple is certainly there, but lets the ginger do the work here.
Taste
The combination of the ginger flavor and the apple juice worked for me with this one. The earthy ginger takes the lead as the clean apple flavor arrives before once again letting the ginger linger for a good while in the finish. There’s a good deal of sweetness on the lips with this one I’d personally prefer it a little dryer.
Overall
This one, though I really liked the Traditional Dry, was probably my favorite of the Angry Orchard samples I received. I thought it was nicely balanced and had just the right amount of ginger. All in all, each product was pretty good in their own right. I’m not a huge cider drinker so I personally wouldn’t go out of my way to buy some, but I wouldn’t hesitate recommending it to friends that enjoy their hard ciders.
