Flying Dog Woody Creek White

As you may have noticed, it appears to be wheat ale season on the site. From Belgian Whites to passion fruit infused, it appears that there’s a bit of trend starting to show the past few reviews. I wonder if that means I’ve finally gotten over my dislike for most things wheat-based. Doubtful, but it gives me an excuse to keep trying new beers.

Woody Creek White is a 4.8% ABV, 18 IBU witbier from Flying Dog Brewing. And it’s your prototypical beer of this style with plenty of spices and banana-y character. It’s refreshing and certainly a beer that I could enjoy several times over.

Appearance

Woody Creek pours a pale yellow in color and hazy. A dense and solidly resilient white cap rests atop the brew.

Aroma

A good helping of banana, lemon, clove, spices, subtle wheat and a touch of grassy hops come together in the nose.

Taste

The spices found in the aroma are a bit more pronounced (though not overwhelming) on the tongue as is the banana, which gives it a bit of a Hefeweisen character. The wheat is stronger in the flavor as well, but exits cleanly and doesn’t leave behind the aftertaste that I’m used to finding in wheat-based products. The beer is crisp and refreshes the palate nicely.

Overall

This is a pretty decent little beer. It’s easy drinking and vibrant, just what you want to reinvigorate the body after a long days work outside around the house.
