Press Release

Frederick, MD – As the who’s who of the craft beer industry descend on the District this March for the annual Craft Brewers Conference, Flying Dog Brewery presents Festival de Cans – a beer-focused film festival at DC’s iconic 9:30 Club.

On Thursday, March 28, Flying Dog is taking over 9:30 Club with The Brewer’s Art, Brooklyn, DC Brau, Golden Road, Half Acre, Maui, New Belgium, Oskar Blues, Sierra Nevada, and Starr Hill.

Emceed by comedian Doug Powell, Festival de Cans will explore the evolution of beer advertising and the craft industry’s impact. Each brewery has submitted a commercial or short film that will be screened alongside some of the best vintage beer commercials beginning at 8 pm.

“Beer advertising from a macro brewery standpoint has become a billion dollar industry,” Ben Savage, Flying Dog VP of marketing, said. “Similar to the artisanal nature of craft beer, craft breweries have rejected traditional advertising methods in favor of artistic and viral film pursuits.”

Each participating brewery will also serve their canned beer selections, some of which is not typically available in Washington, DC.

At 10 pm, Brooklyn-based funk band Escort will take the stage. A 10-member disco orchestra, Escort is one of New York’s most compelling live acts and their debut LP was named one of the top releases of 2012 by Rolling Stone Magazine.

Tickets are $25 and on sale now through the 9:30 Club. Only 500 tickets are available to the public, so the event is expected to sell out.
