Mother Earth Weeping Willow Wit

As noted in yesterday’s review of Foothills Hoppyum IPA, this bottle of Mother Earth Weeping Willow Wit was picked up on a recent trip to North Carolina. Mother Earth Brewing is another one of those Caronlina brewery’s that pops up every now and again in conversations with fellow craft beer drinkers, but I don’t believe that I’ve yet had a product of theirs until now.

Weeping Willow Wit is a 5% ABV witbier that drinks quite smoothly. It’s got the tell-tale characteristics of the style — coriander, banana and wheat — that isn’t overly done like many of its contemporaries. I’m not the biggest witbier fan, though I do have some that I thoroughly enjoy. Weeping Willow Wit isn’t going to turn me into a wheat-obsessed convert, but I still enjoyed the brewery’s offering.

Appearance

Pouring a hazy straw in color, Weeping Willow Wit is capped by a bright white foam that fell slowly to a patchy surface cover.

Aroma

A light yeastiness, soft wheat, coriander, subtle banana and distant orange notes all come together in a subtle though refined aroma.

Taste

A good deal more coriander and spice are present here than in the nose, but they aren’t overly done. A solid wheat backbone is complimented by a light banana-y yeastiness as hints of orange and white pepper linger in the semi-dry finish. The brew is medium bodied with a soft carbonation making for a smooth drinking beer.

Overall

Weeping Willow Wit is a pretty decent little brew. It’s got a clean flavor and smoothness that I like as well as a spice/wheat combination that wasn’t too strong for my personal liking. I was sure to pick up more than one beer from the brewery knowing that I wasn’t going to go crazy of this particular beer, but that’s for a future review. As it stands, I’d have an other bottle of this witbier on a hot Summer afternoon.
