Long Trail Ales Limbo IPA

I’ve had a good number of Long Trail’s brews through the years and I’ve liked all of them to varying degree, but I must say that this 7.6% ABV IPA surprised me. I mean, the company has crafted a limited double IPA in the past and solid seasonal releases, but I did’t expect Limbo IPA to pack so much West Coast style into its 12 ounce bottle.

Limbo IPA is chock full of citrus fruit and pine and brings that become hop bite (80 IBU) that fans of the style crave. I can’t really find anything wrong with this beer. My only real complaint is that I didn’t purchase more of it when I had the opportunity.

Appearance

Hazy amber in color the beer sits with a dense cap of foam that fell slowly, leaving behind sticky lacing.

Aroma

Citrus/tropical fruits, a touch fo pine and a hint of malt make for a subdued, but enticing aroma.

Taste

Limbo IPA is wonderfully fruity up front with a strong hop bitterness to carry you through to the lasting, lingering finish. Grapefruit, orange zest, a little pine and distant bread minger smoothly. The brew is medium bodied and lively with all you could want in an IPA.

Overall

Like I stated up above, this beer surprised me. I’m not sure what I was expecting — perhaps I didn’t remember their double IPA at the time I had this beer — but this was a pleasant shock. I just wish I had more at my disposal as this Summer creeps along.
