Arrogant Brewing Who You Callin’ Wussie

From the beginning, Stone Brewing (and more recently, Arrogant Brewing) has waged war on “fizzy yellow” macro-brews. It’s been part of the company’s mantra for years and, yet, during this review, I couldn’t help but notice how pale, yellow and fizzy this pilsner looks sitting in my glass. Who You Callin’ Wussie isn’t an ironic beer in that sense, nor is it as arrogant as my tastebuds had prematurely assumed when I cracked open one of the wonderfully designed cans back in mid July.

This 5.8% ABV pilsner isn’t your standard example of the style, but it’s also not anything to wave in the face of any established versions of the brew. Yes, Wussie is a bit more slightly hopped than your run-of-the-mill pilsner. Beyond that, however, it’s simply an easy drinking brew with a great blend of grain, biscuit, distant citrus notes and soft pine.

The packaging may have drawn me in, but the easy drinking nature of Who You Callin’ Wussie kept me coming back for another can. The beer isn’t extreme or in-your-face. It’s just a solid, lightly hoppy pilsner that I wouldn’t mind filling my fridge with.
