Austin’s Independence Brewing Co. Introduces Liberty Lunch IPA

Press Release

Austin, TX (June 13, 2016) — Named after the iconic Austin music venue that brought legendary rock, punk, reggae and alternative artists to Austin from 1975 to 1999, Independence Brewing Co. introduces Liberty Lunch IPA to the Texas market.

Liberty Lunch IPA exudes an aroma of pine, honey and citrus, which enhance the fresh, luscious stone fruit and tropical hop flavors of the beer. It’s grounded with a middle malt backbone and spicy hop notes, while subtle honey notes bring it back together to roll gently off the palate. At 5.5% ABV, it’s a “most crushable IPA”.

Much like the bare bones set up of the famed music venue — built into an old lumber yard, it started out with a dirt floor and no roof — Independence’s original 14 barrel brewhouse that opened in 2004 was simple and unadorned. From the very beginning, the team possessed ingenuity and a genuine love of brewing, especially the beers they most wanted to drink themselves and share with friends. Music has always fueled and inspired Independence, and has brought people together at the brewery over the past 12 years, from surprise pop-up shows, to featured musicians at the popular monthly First Saturday events.

“What made Liberty Lunch so special was the people – the owners, staff, and patrons – and their love of great music,” recalls Independence co-founder and president Amy Cartwright. “Reggae, punk, indie rock, country…Liberty Lunch was the place to see storied musicians like Burning Spear and up-and-coming bands like Nirvana and Ween before they were famous.”

“We wanted to make a beer that would be a tribute to the best of the Austin music scene, and Liberty Lunch was our inspiration. Diverse, creative, and welcoming, it represented what we love most about music’s power to inspire people and bring people together.”

Liberty Lunch IPA is available on draft and in 6-pack cans through the summer season in Texas (Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth).
