Knee Deep Brewing Breaking Bud

Beers from Knee Deep brewing started showing up in Virginia back in February and I made sure to pick up a few bottles to check them out. The first product that I attacked was Breaking Bud, a 6.5% ABV IPA billed as a blend of new and old school IPA traits. And it’s pretty darn close as a blend of Mosaic, Simcoe and CTZ hop varieties mingle with a good amount of flaked wheat in the malt bill.

The result is an IPA that presents a good amount of dank aromas and tropical fruit flavors (mango, grapefruit) with a moderate hop bite (50 IBU). The beer delivers a good amount pine and balancing bready maltiness for a well rounded flavor profile that leans more on the fruit than the bite. Breaking Bud has an appropriate mouthfeel and crispness that refreshes nicely.

I enjoyed my introduction to Knee Deep Brewing, but really wish the dankness that was in the nose translated to the flavor, as well. I’d personally prefer a bit more old school in this beer’s flavor profile, but still thoroughly enjoyed Breaking Bad’s overall presentation.
