Cigar City Guayabera

At the office, there’s an unofficial day of the week where a few of us sit down and sample a beer. It’s usually a bottle shared between us just as a way to get others to perhaps try something a bit different or get out of their comfort zone. A while back one of my coworkers brought in a can of Cigar City’s Guayabera and I knew with just that third of a glass that I needed to check it out in more detail. A week or two after that initial taste, I tracked down a sixer and here we are.

Guayabera (5.5% ABV, 50 IBU) is a tasty pale ale packed with Citra hops that provide an aroma and flavor profile full of luscious fruit notes. Hints of mango, pineapple, grassy hop notes, orangey citrus and herbal notes both fill the nose and wash smoothly over the tongue. The fruit notes are balanced nicely with a good amount of bitterness and malt backbone, making for an easy drinking pale ale with a refreshing nature.

Cigar City have themselves a treat of a beer with Guayabera. I love the balance it presents, from the flavorful hop notes to the cereal and grain of the malt bill. It’s an easy drinking beer that I thoroughly enjoyed over a long June weekend out on the back deck. It’s also a pale ale that I will be sure to stock up on again before this hot weather fades into Autumn.
