Barley Blog - Commentary on Quality Beer

Celebrator

By BarleyBlog | December 18th, 2006 | Beer, Reviews

Ayinger Brewery’s Celebrator Doppelbock is a beer that I’ve had this one on several occasions and loved it every time. In fact, I’m pretty sure that’s I still have just about all of the souvenir plastic rams that come with each bottle. It’s a distinctly rich and earthy beer that I will absolutely pick up almost every time I hit the store.

Beer Label: Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock

Aroma

Celebrator’s aroma is fairly strong in an earthy, peaty way. It’s got a sweet coffee, chocolate undercurrent that really adds to it’s appeal. As it warms there is a bit of heat on the nose as well.

Appearance

The beer pours nearly black and has deep red hues when held to light. The head is rich toffee in color that starts full and thick, but fades quickly to a thin lace on the beer.

Taste

Celebrator is a rich and smooth beer with hints of roasted coffee. It’s a relatively sweet beer with a nice balance of bitterness and alcohol heat.

Overall

This is one brew that I wouldn’t mind having a stock fridge of at all times. The sweetness balanced with the earthy, roasted coffee makes for a great beer. Rating: 4/5

Hey, those little goats make great pendant earrings! Your wife can sport them the next time you get to attend a BURP meeting. The only other earring pendants that I thought were better for a beer outing were dart flight advertising Guinness.
