Barley Blog - Commentary on Quality Beer

In The Fridge II

By BarleyBlog | December 22nd, 2006 | Beer, The Fridge

We had family in town last night, so I had to make another quick run to the store for reinforcements. So what’s in the fridge now?

  • Euphorique (De Proefbrouwerij)
  • Ommegang Abby Ale (Brewery Ommegang)
  • Our Special Ale 2006 (Anchor Brewing)
  • Maudite (Unibroue)
  • Pangaea (Dogfish Head Craft Brewery)
  • Fort (Dogfish Head Craft Brewery)
  • Mad Elf Holiday Ale (Tröegs Brewing, Co.)
  • Chimay Grande Réserve (Blue) (Bières de Chimay)

There are some classics in there, one sampled for the first time last night, and some yet to be enjoyed.

Sorry about hitting the Anchor Special so hard. Great beer! Picked up two six packs at our local Total. The Elf was good, but I found the aftertaste a bit metallic in the glass I had. The Elf can be a very good beer, this one was just a bit off.

I couldn’t make a case for opening the Fort, but want to know what it was like. We had a raspberry hint in a beer when we were in the Ardennes. Wonderful stuff, especially when eating a ham and cheese sandwich served the way they serve them up in Belgium. Great frites and mayonnaise accompanied the sandwich. I keep wondering why I don’t just buy a place over there for retirement. Oh, yeah, the grandkids… That’ll do it.

I’ll probably be opening up the Fort this weekend. I’m really excited about it. Well, when you do decide to get a place over seas, let me know and I’ll be there!
