Barley Blog - Commentary on Quality Beer

Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale

By BarleyBlog | March 6th, 2007 | Beer, Reviews

I’m obviously a big fan of the things that the folks at Dogfish Head are doing. I think I’ve already got four reviews not including this one in their favor. And I’ve had plenty more of their beer. They are just doing tremendous things with craft brews. The Indian Brown Ale is no exception.

Beer Label: Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale

Appearance

The beer poured a nice dark brown with red hues when held up to the light. The tan head quickly faded to a thin lacing.

Aroma

This beer smells great. There are hints of chocolate and coffee, as well as a slight burnt nuttiness that lingers quietly.

Taste

For a brown ale, this one was surprisingly rich with the chocolate and coffee combination. It doesn’t have a bitter finish, but is instead smooth. I found the lower carbonation levels helped contribute to it’s smoothness.

Overall

This is a wonderful beer! It’s rich and smooth with a slightly creamy finish. Even at 7.2% ABV, this would make for an excellent (although limited) session beer. I will definitely be on the look out for this one again.

Rating: 4/5
