Barley Blog - Commentary on Quality Beer

Amethyst Initiative

Rick Lyke has a brief summary of what’s going on with the debate over the legal drinking age. I can tell you this… as soon as I came of age to legally purchase beer, my alcohol consumption slowed dramatically. Oh, I still drank a good amount, but the nights of “Power Hour” seemed to occur less and less.

I think it’s fantastic these presidents were brave enough to finaly speak up. It’s great we’re actually having a debate! Check out my blog on the subject and share your opinion. Love to hear from you.

that’s because you got OLDER by the time you were legally allowed to drink.
Maturity had set in.

This initiative can be viewed as a cop-out by college adminstrators who lack the courage to enforce the 21 law for fear of upsetting their “customers.” If these “educators” truly had the best interests of young people at heart, they might be asking why the minimum age for serving (and dying) in the military is not raised to 21, not why the legal drinking age is not lowered to 18.

My website, linked from this post, offers answers to all the lame excuses for the drinking age.

Outvoted discrimination victims should remember, though, that their drinking more does not hurt the state senators one bit. They should, instead, say that they refuse to join the National Guard because Congress and the state legislature hate everybody under 21. Why should Johnny sign up to protect the lives and property of people who, on election day, won’t even vote to protect his right to liberty?

Since the government has no right to employ gunt-toing goons in bulletproof vests as weapons of unprovoked violence to intimidate innocent citizens out of exercising their inherent natural right to drink the beverage of their choice, that leaves non-violent efforts, such as the free video presentations on my website, consisting of TV news segments in a sequence calculated to inspire students to make good choices.
