Beer Blog Discussing All Things Craft Beer

Too Tired for Beer

By BarleyBlog | July 25th, 2008 | Beer, Commentary

I’m pretty sure that this is the first time that I’ve been too tired to drink a beer after a hard day’s work.

It all started with a severe thunderstorm that cruised through my neighborhood mid evening on Wednesday. It had the tell-tale rotation of a tornado, but whether it was officially one or not is still up for debate. Either way, it left a couple dozen trees on the ground in its wake. All but a few of the trees were sheared off about 20-30 feet off the ground.

We had two large pines come down in the backyard, but were lucky and had no damage to any of our property. Others weren’t as fortunate. There are a couple of homes with trees now inside them, a couple of vehicles suffered damage (one was crushed as the same tree hit two other cars).

So, yesterday I took off from work to get down to clearing out the fallen trees and helping out neighbors. After a full day with chainsaw in hand, we finally called a stop to the clean-up around 4:30, got cleaned up and slumped down where we could.

I was parched. I wanted a beer, but couldn’t even get myself to finish the bottle. I was wiped out.

Hopefully, I can enjoy one this evening before the clean up continues tomorrow. We’re taking down what’s left of the two pines behind the house and clearing out more debris from other neighbors’ yards. Should prove to be an interesting weekend.

Now is when I wish I still had some of those beers from up in Rhode Island that had a “storm” theme. Glad you folks were alright. Just think: you got a chainsaw out to the mess.

Best,
Roy
