Bluegrass Brewing Horse Piss Beer

Beer Label: Bluegrass Brewing Horse Piss Beer

My wife picked up a four pack of this beer from Bluegrass Brewing back in late November on her way home from Kentucky. I at first dismissed the beer as just a goof of a product and, honestly, hadn’t really given much thought to writing a review of it as it’s not particularly a great beer, but after sitting on my notes for long enough, I figured what the hell.

It’s a macro style lager that’s appropriately named — gotta love the intended dig at larger breweries with this one. Beyond that, there really isn’t much else to say about the tasting experience, so let’s do a little research.

Through the magic of the Interwebs, I learned that a percentage of sales of the brew goes to “…help disabled jockeys and adoption programs for our equine friends.” Now, I’m not a horse racing fan, but it seems like a worthy cause, especially for a novelty product. So here’s a review of a craft brewed macro lager that’s not great, but some of you might find the urge for a cold glass of Horse Piss in your future.

Appearance

This beer looks just like it’s namesake. It’s golden in color with a large head that faded to a decent lace on the glass.

Aroma

Phew. At least it doesn’t smell like horse piss. This one is all macro lager — thin in aroma and bland.

Taste

First sip: yep, hand crafted macro brew. Second sip: do I have to finish the bottle? In all seriousness, it’s really not that bad for what it is. It’s smoother than most macro brews and finishes crisp.

Overall

So, there you have it. This will probably would have been the lowest rated beer on the site had it not been for the whole charity aspect to it. Don’t expect much from this one, however, I can see it being the right beer for a hot Summer afternoon after a hard days work outside — if all you’re looking for is cold refreshment.
