Weyerbacher Harvest Ale

Weyerbacher Harvest Ale

I picked up a bottle of Weyerbacher’s wet hop (harvested from the brewery’s own farm) ale, Harvest Ale, a couple of weeks ago at Total Wine. I’m a big fan of what these guys do, so it was a no-brainer for me to grab a bottle. I’m just kicking myself now for not having gotten more — I haven’t seen it around since.

Appearance

Harvest pours a medium amber in color. The head was large and fluffy, fading slowly.

Aroma

The nose is quite aromatic with a good dose of citrus and grassy notes. It smells fresh and clean.

Taste

Hmmm… While the taste of this one is good, I will admit to some disappointment with it. The aroma was so inviting and so floral, that the taste really doesn’t compare. Harvest does have a nice hop presence that’s pleasantly biting and clean. There are light grass and apple notes in there, but they are quite subtle. The finish is dry and tart.

Overall

It’s a tasty brew, but maybe I was expecting too much after getting a solid whiff of that aromatic nose. The beer does have a great flavor and, at 6.2% ABV, is very drinkable. I’m sure I’ll be picking up more of Harvest when/if I see it again — one bottle wasn’t nearly enough.
