New Belgium Brewing’s Sensory Sour Symposium in Richmond, Va. on May 15, 2015

Press Release

Ft. Collins, Colo., April 28, 2015 – Beer geeks unite for a special evening with Lauren and Eric Salazar, New Belgium Brewing’s wood beer specialists. On Friday, May 15, 2015 in Richmond, Va., the Salazars will present the fourth Sour Symposium event of 2015. Each event offers a hands-on opportunity to experience beer making as guests experiment with their own blend, enjoy a pint of New Belgium’s La Folie, and take home a new appreciation of sour beers.

“Beer blending is a sensory art that has been relied on for centuries to create both balance and complexity,” said Lauren. “This Sour Symposium is a great way to experience beer making in its purest form and attendees leave with a true appreciation for the wonderful world of sours!”

Richmond’s Sour Symposium will feature two different sessions, each lasting two hours. Guests will go through the art of blending beer – from grain to glass – focusing on techniques Eric and Lauren use in New Belgium’s cellar. Attendees will also get to blend their own sour beers using different samples of unblended base beers kept in individual foeders of the brewery’s cellar. They will then document their blend ratios to see who has what it takes to be the next Master Blender.
