Sierra Nevada Beer Camp West Coast Style DIPA

This 8.3% ABV (65 IBU) double IPA is exactly the kind of beer I was expecting at some point when I purchased the Sierra Nevada Beer Camp 12-pack.
The collaboration sees Oregon’s Boneyard Beer contributing their knowledge in crafting West Coast Style DIPA. That combined knowledge has taken a blend of Mosaic, Simcoe, Centennial and Citra hop varieties and turned them into a pungent and dank drinking experience that any hophead will thoroughly enjoy.

This West Coast Style DIPA is packed with grapefruit, orange and a solid amount of resinous pine in both the aroma and flavor. As the big beer hits the tongue, those hops combine for a straightforward array of flavors that doesn’t get too fruity or too floral, but focuses on that pine and citrus notes. A healthy bite of bitterness swells smoothly before fading slowly through the clean and lingering finish. The higher level of alcohol is masked so well, the beer is dangerously chuggable.

This is the type of double IPA I love. It’s packed with potent hop flavors of pine, grapefruit, a touch of orange and light herbal notes — all of which wash over the palate incredibly smoothly. Sierra Nevada and Boneyard have themselves a full-flavored DIPA that is do dangerously drinkable and refreshing that it doesn’t last long in the glass at all. I could have gone for a couple of these.
