Karl Strauss Releases Barrel-Aged Saison to Celebrate 29th Anniversary

It’s been 29 years since Karl Strauss Brewing Company officially opened its doors in downtown San Diego on February 2nd, 1989 helping to kick off California’s craft beer industry. The company is commemorating their 29th year in beer with a new barrel-aged release.

This year’s edition of their esteemed anniversary series is a Belgian-style Saison aged in Pinot Noir barrels for 12 months with Brettanomyces. The brew features complex spice flavors and juicy fruit notes from added pink peppercorns, rounded out by a dry and lively finish.

“It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 30 years since we first opened the doors of our brewery. We’re humbled by the support of our fans and friends who have been along for the ride and invite you all to join us in celebrating our birthday. We had a great year in 2017 and we have big plans for our 29th year, including exciting beer releases like Boat Shoes unfiltered IPA, Isomerizer single hop IPA, and canning core favorites Aurora Hoppyalis and Mosaic. We also have some killer releases coming out of our barrel program, including two releases of Queen of Tarts, our gold medal-winning dark sour,” says Matt Rattner, President, Karl Strauss Brewing Company

Their 29th Anniversary Barrel-Aged Saison will be available at select retailers throughout California, including KARL’s Tasting Room in Pacific Beach and at all of their brewpub locations. In celebration of the special release, their February menu will feature the brew in their monthly food and beer pairing, and 29th Anniversary commemorative glassware specials will be available at each KARL brewpub starting February 1st.
