Moylan’s Kilt Lifter Scotch Ale
I’m enjoying the recent cooling we’ve had with the weather the past week or so. It’s given me an excuse to start buying beers like Moylan’s Kilt Lifter. Sure, the thermometer outside the kitchen window still reads 74°, but any excuse I can use to rationalize heavier beer in the Summer is cool by me.
Appearance
Kilt Lifter pours copper in color with a smallish, off-white head that faded to a light lacing.
Aroma
Mmmmm… sweet, malty with light caramels and a woodiness. There’s a wonderful fruit presence, but it’s on the subtle side. The 8.0% ABV is well masked, but still detectable on the nose.
Taste
Malty, caramel, sweet, wonderful. Kilt Lifter felt a bit light with the mouthfeel when compared to a few of the Scotch Ales I’ve had in the past. As this one warms, it gets a bit boozy, warming you nicely. A smoky peatiness also comes out in the finish as the beer sits in the glass.
Overall
I will be on the lookout for this brew as the weather gets even cooler. It was a tasty brew and I can easily see why it’s won so many awards (medals dominate the label artwork).
