Smuttynose Star Island Single

While not really in the typical alcohol range for a session brew, this Belgian Pale Ale from Smuttynose is billed as a sessionable product. That said, however, at 5.6% ABV, Star Island Single is low enough in alcohol content to sit around with some friends and enjoy a few. This Belgian Pale Ale is tasty, crisp and refreshing.

The beer pours a clear and clean light golden in color with a dense white head.

Fruity and spicy, Star Island Single smells like it’s a solid Belgian inspired brew. There’s a bit of orange peel among the citrus hops as well as a crisp tingle on the nose.

Who says you have to go big to get a big flavor from a beer? This brew is airy, fresh, citrusy and refreshing. The spice notes come through more toward the end and linger nicely in the clean finish. There’s also a decent malt presence that comes in late.

I like this beer. It would be perfect served with a nice chill on it while sitting out on the back deck on a hot, humid afternoon. It’s very drinkable, flavorful and refreshing. I should have bought more.
