Yards Brawler Pugilist Style Ale

It seems lately that I’ve been finding more and more sessionable brews on beer shelves around my area. And to tell you the truth, I’m excited. I had never really gotten into session beer due to the plethora of higher ABV beers that I tend to be drawn to, but now that it appears more lower alcohol products are becoming readily available I’ve had the opportunity to slow down a bit and enjoy a tasty brew without wanting to take a nap later in the day.

Yard Brewing Brawler, a “Pugilist Style Ale,” is one of the session ales I’ve had the opportunity to enjoy a couple of times recently. It’s a 4.2% ABV English Dark Mild that’s full of flavor and easy drinking.

Appearance

Brawler pours a copperish brown in color with an off-white, creamy head.

Aroma

Caramel malts that has a nice toast to it starts off the nose as a light touch of dark fruits and grain come in later.

Taste

The taste just about matches the nose perfectly with a light mouthfeel. The beer’s got a nice malt sweetness behind it that leads to smooth, clean finish. There’s a brief appearance from a low level hop presence that adds a touch of earthiness and bitterness to the beer.

Overall

Yards Brawler turned out to be an easy drinking and enjoyable brew. I can see myself enjoying quite a few of these when football season kicks back in later this year. Actually, why wait till then, I think I’ll pick some up on the way home from work today.
