Crispin Original Hard Cider

Crispin Cider photoTastier than it looks

Well, my brief encounter with craft ciders will remain just that — brief. It’s just not a beverage style that I can get excited about. Sure the Fox Barrel I tried was tasty enough and this offering from Crispin is pretty good, but in the end my neanderthal brain only tastes bubbly fruit juice.

I’m sure these companies go out of their way to make a superior product and, obviously, there are many people who enjoy them, but I’m not going to be one of them going forward. My wife, on the other hand, held my last bottle of Firestone Walker Parabola hostage until I bought her a four pack of the Crispin Original.

Appearance

As you can see this cider pours a very pale yellow that is crystal clear. Little bubbles rise from the bottom of the glass.

Aroma

Smells like freshly crushed apples. There’s a light sweetness on the nose, but little else. Other than that it’s just got a really clean, crisp aroma.

Taste

It tastes just like freshly made apple cider, but without the lovely pulp found at the bottom of the plastic jug. It’s quite refreshing with a light, delicate level of carbonation on the tongue. There’s not a hint of the 5% ABV to be found. The dry finish is a nice touch.

Overall

I did enjoy this bottle of Crispin Original, but I’m not sure I could have more than one of these in a single sitting and, ultimately, that’s one of my requirements for purchasing a beverage again at some future date. It’s well made and my wife loved it, but I’ll stick to my craft beer, thanks.
