Lickinghole Creek The Source Blueberry IPA
I love collaborative beers. The joint effort of two (or more) companies coming together with their own thoughts and ideals, working together to create something tasty for the masses. For the most part, the final brews are pretty good. This 7.5% ABV IPA is not necessarily one of them.
The Source Blueberry IPA is the offspring of a joint effort between two Virginia breweries that I particular enjoy — Lickinghole Creek and Three Notch’d Brewing. Unfortunately, what we’ve got here, as you’ll read in the tasting notes, is a beer that has an interesting character, but in the end, just doesn’t come together fully. In fact, the experience is more akin to being pelted about the head and shoulders with warm blueberry muffins. Now, if you’re into that sort of thing — you naughty craft beer drinker you — then, by all means, enjoy.
I, personally, would just like more IPA in my, well, IPA — the blueberries dominate a bit too much for my own preferences. The Source Blueberry IPA is definitely not going to be a beer for everyone. Hell, I was even warned on social media that I may end up pouring it down the drain. In the end, however, I did not feed it to my sink. It was an experience that I wanted to have and did, so I guess it’s time to move onto the next brew.
