Schlafly Double Bean Blonde

I can’t say that I would have thought a combination of a blonde ale, cocoa nibs and coffee beans would have been a good idea — let alone one that actually tastes good — but leave it to the brewers at Schlafly Beer to figure out how to make it all work together. The brewery’s Double Bean Blonde crafted with Ghanaian cocoa nibs and Tanzanian coffee beans roasted by St. Louis’ Kaldi’s Coffee. It’s a trio of flavors that, oddly enough, actually work pretty darn well with one another.

Just looking at this beer in the glass, you wouldn’t expect the smooth wafts of coffee on the nose nor the lingering cocoa flavor on the tongue. They’re certainly there, however, but in a fashion that more teases the tastebuds instead of demanding your full attention. The brew is well balanced and incredibly smooth — no one element stands out more than the others.

Double Bean Blonde is a limited release from the company and I’m not sure how long it will be around, but if you’re in the mood for something slightly different, this intriguing brew is a solid option. The 6.3% ABV blonde ale certainly sets itself apart in a rather unassuming package. It’s delicately smooth and quite tasty.
