Long Trail Unearthed Stout

Long Trail’s Unearthed Stout is my kind of stout. It’s big, without being too big (7.9% ABV) for its own good, and carries a solid amount of earthy character that I really enjoy in this type of beer. The beer couldn’t have been given a better name. It tastes like it was culled from the depths of of the earth.

Despite an aroma that didn’t really have much to offer, the flavor of this brew more than made up for it. A robust character and earthiness bring espresso notes, cocoa and a soft anise to the experience. Everything blends well together in this full bodied brew. A hint of tobacco lingers in the mix, as well, only adding to that earthy character.

Unearthed is a beer that I will be revisiting again as the months grow colder. And it’s available year-round, so that certainly helps in that task. It’s earthy nature will be a great compliment to the smell of Autumn and days of raking leaves.
