Victory Brewing Whirlwind Witbier

I’ve had my fair share of beer from Pennsylvania’s Victory Brewing over the years, but this is the first time I’ve had their Whirlwind Witbier. The company makes some of my favorite brews (Storm King Stout and Prima Pils immediately come to mind) so I should have tried this beer sooner than I have.

This 5.0% ABV brew is a manageable Witbier with all of the fruity esters and herbal notes you expect from the style, but it’s not going to be challenging any of my more preferred products from the brewery any time soon

Appearance

Whirlwind pours golden yellow in color with a quickly falling dropping head that was quite audible.

Aroma

There is plenty of fruity esters from the Belgian yeast — banana, lemon, apple. Grassy hops and a grainy malt presence also arrive with a decent herbal/spice notes.

Taste

The fruity notes of the nose (banana, lemony zest and light apple) arrive first with a wave of wheat as Whirlwind transitions through clove and spices toward a lightly biting, peppery hop finish. It’s an easy drinking brew with a crisp and refreshing mouthfeel.

Overall

I’ve been drinking a bunch of wheat-based beers the past couple of months and this one from Victory Brewing is right in line with some of the better ones. It’s easy drinking with a solid wheat character that would be enjoyable on any hot Summer afternoon.
