Coronado Brewing Berry The Hatchet

Coronado Brewing’s Berry the Hatchet is the first bottle from the company I’ve enjoyed that employs their newly redesigned label artwork. I particularly like the subtle mermaid ghosted in the background behind the clean typography, but it’s the beer inside that I was more interested in. And, aside from a body that’s perhaps a bit too light, the rosey brew is pretty darn tasty.

A combination of raspberries, blackberries and boysenberries provides the primary flavor profile while yeast and wheat support everything nicely. The berry trio combine for a fruity and natural character that’s not too sweet or jammy as some berries can come across. The boysenberries and blackberries are in the mix, but the raspberries tend to dominate the experience which isn’t a big deal.

As noted, Berry the Hatchet is a bit light in body for my personal liking. It’s an effervescent beer with a lively, refreshing nature, but I would have really liked it a bit fuller. Aside from that quibble, the beer is an excellent beer for any warm Spring/Summer afternoon. It’ll reinvigorate your senses and provide a tasty array for berry goodness.
