Founders Lizard of Koz

Founders Lizard of Koz was brewed by brewmaster Jeremy Kosmicki as a birthday gift for his sister. The imperial stout uses a few of her favorite foods within its dark depths — blueberries, chocolate and vanilla — and is then aged in bourbon barrels for an unknown length of time. The result is a big (10.5% aBV) stout that is ideal for not just a birthday celebration, but just about any post-dinner dessert.

While bourbon, wood and vanilla are certainly in the mix, the combination does not dominate this rich stout. It’s the blueberries that lead the way for everything else within Lizard of Koz. The fruity berries are present right from the start and last all the way through the lasting and warming finish, offering a soft tartness to go along with chocolate and late coffee notes. While the blueberries are predominant, everything else is well balanced in the background.

This is probably not going to be a brew that you’re going to crack open and sit outside in the warmer than normal weather. Lizard of Koz is a rich stout that is ideal as dessert after a big meal with friends. It’s almost like sipping on a mellow bourbon while eating chocolate covered blueberries. If that’s your thing, then this is a beer you’ll want to check out.
