Paulaner Oktoberfest Märzen
I suppose that this past weekend unofficially marks the beginning of the autumn beer seasonals. I seemed that every place I went on Friday was pushing ales brewed with pumpkin or pecan and every variety of Oktoberfest. I love the Fall.
So to get the season started off right, I figured I’d open up a bottle of Paulaner Oktoberfest Märzen. For some reason, it just seemed like the right beer to start with.
Appearance
The Märzen has a rusted, ruby red color to it with a quickly fading fluffy head. It looks real good in my Spaten Oktoberfest glass.
Aroma
This one has a great nutty aroma to it that’s accompanied with rich malts and a subtle spice. There’s a hint of sweetness as well.
Taste
Lots of malt up front and that nuttiness from the nose. There’s a slight hop finish that’s quite refreshing. It’s nicely complex and well balanced.
Overall
It’s a bit early in the year for an Oktoberfest, but I just couldn’t help myself. I will probably pick up a couple more of these to sit out on the back deck and watch the leaves fall as the weather cools.
