Gordon Biersch Hefeweizen

I’m not a huge fan of the style, but I know through experience that a nice, cold Hefeweizen on a hot Summer day can be magical. Gordon Biersch’s own take on the style arrived last week with a few of its friends. The weather on the day that I cracked it open wasn’t exceptionally warm, but the brew refreshed as the style often does, going down quite easily.

At 5.5% ABV, the Hefeweizen brings everything you expect of the style to the table &#151l wheat, a touch of clove, hints of banana and a soft lemony trait. All in a tasty, easy drinking package.

Appearance

A dense, pillowy crown of white foam sits atop the hazy amber brew.

Aroma

It’s got that prototypical Hefe aroma as wheat, light lemony note, soft banana and spices come together cleanly.

Taste

This brew is quite tasty… for a Hefe. The banana comes across even softer here as a hint of bubblegum creeps in, lingering gently for a while in the lasting finish. Hints of lemon accompany clove and other spices as yeast and wheat fill in cleanly. The brew is medium bodied and smooth on the tongue, leaving a slight warmth in the chest.

Overall

All in all, Gordon Biersch’s Hefeweizen is a brew that I would certainly drink again. I’m not a huge hefeweizen fan, but this beer drinks cleanly and goes down easily, leaving you refreshed and ready to tackle the day…. or another bottle.
