Victory Brewing Moving Parts 03

Victory Brewing’s first Moving Parts release was, for all intents and purposes, a pretty standard and tasty IPA. With the second batch of the ever-evolving IPA, the company crossed the pond with the use of all-English hops and English yeasts, making for another unique tasting experience. For this latest Moving Parts effort, the brewery stays overseas with the use of a Belgian yeast in the recipe.

This 6.6% ABV Belgian-inspired IPA is certainly different than its predecessors, yet also delivers an excellent overall hoppy character. While the first two were fruity and earthy, this latest offering is more herbal with a bit of peppery yeast to makes things that much more interesting.

Appearance

As you can see by the photos accompanying this review, Moving Parts pours an attractive, golden amber in color with a frothy crown of white foam that left behind decent lacework as it dropped.

Aroma

The nose on this beer is wonderful with elements of lemony citrus, grass, pine needles, soft grain, peppery yeast and an overall herbal hop character.

Taste

And the flavors are right in line with the aroma. Herbal, grassy hops lead the way for grain notes, soft caramel and the peppery Belgian yeast. Pine, lemony citrus and hints of tropical fruits linger gently throughout. The beer’s softer carbonation and medium body allow it to go down smoothly with no hint of alcohol and only a moderate hop bitterness. This is an easy drinking beer.

Overall

I enjoyed the first two releases in this series of beers, but Moving Parts 03 is my favorite thus far. I’m not usually a big fan of overly herbal (or floral) hop profiles in a beer, but with the peppery Belgian yeast, this one just works for me. It’s easy going nature make it an enjoyable brew to sit down with — it’s not-so-biting bitterness only adds to that appeal.
