Kindred Spirits Paid in Full

I’m a big fan of Kindred Spirits’ Headspace, an IPA that is well rounded and packs a ton of hop flavor into the artfully designed 16 ounce can. Paid in Full is another IPA from the Richmond brewery, weighing in at 8.9% ABV. Much like Headspace, there is little information about this beer — namely, the varieties to hop this golden amber brew.

What I can tell you about Paid in Full is that the hop profile delivers a good amount of orange peel and grapefruit flavors along with herbal notes and a hit of a peppery tingle. It’s also got a bit more of a bite when compared to the hop bitterness found in Headspace, fading slowly to the lasting finish. A solid malt backbone helps support all of those hop flavors with a decent amount of caramel and bread, keeping everything in check. This brew should probably be in the imperial range as it is fairly warming, leaving a soft glow in the chest after each swallow.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about Kindred Spirits, it’s that they know how to craft an IPA. Both Headspace and Paid in Full provide a solid hop profile with varying flavors, but also an appropriate amount of backing malt flavors. I’d be hard pressed to find any complaints about either beer, maybe that I can’t find this big IPA on shelves nearly as often as I would like.
