Trinity IPA
I purchased this bottle of Rhode Island’s Trinity Brewhouse IPA the other week amongst a few other samples from the New England region. I don’t know squat about the brewpub, and their website has little to offer, so we’ll just dive head first into this English style IPA.
Appearance
Trinity IPA pours a slightly hazy, golden amber in color. The small white head faded slowly to a fairly decent bit of lacework.
Aroma
Grassy hops with a good amount of grapefruit fill the nose smoothly. There’s also a touch of pine in there as lightly toasted bread sits in the background.
Taste
The brew isn’t quite as fruity as the nose, but still carries a hefty helping of pine and grassy hops throughout. The earthy, resiny nature of the brew overlay caramel and bready malts as a mild amount of hop bitterness drops in strength smoothly to a lingering tingle on the tongue in the finish.
Overall
This is a pretty solid, middle-of-the-road IPA that leans more on the malt side of things as is expected in a beer of this style. It’s well balanced between the malt and earthy, grassy hops. It’s an easy drinking beer that I could see myself enjoying though at 7% ABV, not too many on a cool September afternoon.
