Green Flash 30th Street Pale Ale

Green Flash labels this beer as a pale ale, but it’s heavy hopping with Warrior, Cascade and El Dorado hop varieties puts it firmly in IPA land. 30th Street Pale Ale is brewed as an homage to the company’s local scene and brings just about everything you want in a hop-driven brew.

This 6% ABV brew packs plenty of hop character in its amber depths. It’s citrusy, herbal and has just the right amount of bite at 45 IBU. It’s pretty one-dimensional in terms of overall hop presentation with just a bit of malt in the background. I’d personally like a bit more balance, but still enjoyed all that the hope blend had to offer.

Appearance

30th Street Pale Ale pours a rich amber in color with a rocky cap of tawny foam that left behind sticky lacing as it dropped.

Aroma

Grapefruit, tangerine, herbal/flowery notes and soft pine. A light toast lingers gently.

Taste

Flowery and herbal up front with a good bit of grapefruit and soft orange notes. Pine, toast and crackers linger in the background. Moderate level of bitterness fades smoothly to a drying finish. The beer is medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Overall

There was a good bit about this beer that I like, but it’s just a bit too flowery for my own personal liking. If it were a bit less in that regard and perhaps a bit less drying in that finish, I’d prefer this one that much more. Still, not a bad beer.
