Trinity Super Juice Solution

As I mentioned in yesterday’s review of Almanac Hoppy Sour: Citra, I’ve seen an uptick recently of the hoppy sour and sour IPA. This bottle of Trinity Brewing Super Juice Solution is part of that micro-trend. This beer also serves as my first introduction to this Colorado brewer that just started showing up on shelves back in April.

The 4.1% ABV soured IPA employs a healthy amount of American hops before Lactobacillus delbrueckii takes hold, sending the citrus notes toward a sour tartness. Hints of lemon zest and pineapple mingle with hay, a soft wild funk and a healthy amount of tartness in a well-rounded flavor profile. Super Juice Solution certainly has good flavor, but it lacks the crisp liveliness or sharpness that an IPA or a sour often delivers. The beer comes across a tad watery as a result, lacking that refreshing punch.

I enjoyed the flavor on Super Juice Solution, but it needed some crispness and a bit more body to make it that much more enjoyable. The whole sour IPA thing is daring and inventive, but this one falls a bit flat in terms of leaving a more memorable mark. That said, Trinity has made one heck of a debut in my beer fridge.
