Lonerider Shotgun Betty Hefeweizen

My relationship with the hefeweizen has long been documented on this site. I can dig them when the time is just right, but for the most part, we tend to keep our distance. Well, this bottle of Lonerider Beer’s Shotgun Betty was part of a “thank you” mixed pack that I received a little while back and has thusly forced my hand in cracking it open.

This 5.8% ABV brew is right in line with everything one expects from the style. The soft wheat, banana and spices are all in the mix and really do make for an easy drinking beer. The lightly bodied and fizzy carbonation make for a more unique than most experience that I actually quite enjoyed.

Appearance

Hazy pale yellow in color, the beer sits with zero head. There’s noisy carbonation activity despite the lack of any foam.

Aroma

Wheat, grain and soft banana fill the nose gently with distant spice notes.

Taste

A fizzy mouthfeel delivers a mild banana and wheat combination. The beer is fairly sweet on the lips and drinks real easy. It’s gone from the glass before you know it.

Overall

There’s not much to say about this beer really. It’s got the standard hefe flavor profile, but I must say the soft, yet active carbonation makes it soda-like in nature. It’s does refresh the palate nicely and goes down too smoothly despite the modest alcohol content.
