Old Ox Black Ox Rye Porter

Ever since finding cans of their Golden Ox and Alpha Ox at a local grocery store, the products from Old Ox Brewery has held a pretty consistent spot in the Barley Blog fridge. Their beers are just simply solid and consistent each and every time a can is cracked open. Now, I can add Black Ox to that statement.

This 6% ABV rye porter has a great character and touch of earthiness all packaged in a super smooth drinking experience. The beer hits all the marks I want in a go-to porter and very well could become my go-to porter for the colder months to come. Coco, maduro cigar, lightly peppery rye, coffee and a soft roastiness all come together cleanly and in a well balanced presentation while Chinook and Cascade hop varieties adds a touch of bitterness to keep everything in check.

Old Ox Brewery simply make a well crafted and solid beer. Their flagship brews are always tasty and easy drinking — Black Ox is just as balanced and satisfying. And now that the weather is finally starting to get cold, this porter is going to be a frequent visitor in my beer fridge. It’s pretty damn good.
