Monday Night Fistful of Cake

Monday Night Brewing’s Fistful of Cake is a damn tasty beer. It was definitely a surprise given my not-so-favorable relationship with one of its primary ingredients. Coconut and I don’t always get along, especially when consumed fresh or shaved, but there is one exception.

Toasted coconut and it’s nutty flavor just seems to work too well for me when its part of a rich porter or stout. And that’s exactly what’s going on with Fistful of Cake. This 9% ABV imperial stout features a smooth array of toasted coconut, Ugandan vanilla bean and cocoa – all added lovingly to a solid base brew. The big beer is decadent without becoming cloying and presents a flavor profile that is incredibly smooth and well balanced. Each element works in wonderful unison with the rest.

Fistful of Cake is a beer that serves nicely as an after-dinner treat, drinking with deceptive ease for its alcohol content. The beer’s overall balance is key to that experience. The flavor is impeccable and simply works (especially for my finicky tastebuds) while the mouthfeel and lightly warming finish are more than appropriate for a beer of this style. It’s hard to find anything wrong with this beer really. It’s stupid good.
